Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you ever wanted to know about DO YOU ENDO, all in one place.
What is DO YOU ENDO?
DO YOU ENDO is a digital magazine created by people with endometriosis, for people with endometriosis. When we launched in 2017, we were the very first magazine of our kind. Today, there are a few other resources out there, but we remain dedicated to providing a bullshit-free space for honest stories, resources, and unfiltered voices from our community.
Who founded DO YOU ENDO?
Our founder is Tabitha Britt. She launched DO YOU ENDO in 2017 after becoming very, very sick herself. While she knew she likely had endometriosis because her mom had it, she didn’t realize all her symptoms were tied to the disease at the time. It took 14 years and seven different doctors for her to finally find the specialist who saved her life.
You can read more about her journey on our About page. DO YOU ENDO is also made possible by an incredible team of editors and contributors—stay tuned for our official Team page to meet everyone who keeps this publication running.
What is an ‘Endovidual’?
Tabitha coined this term for a few important reasons. First, getting a definitive surgical diagnosis is incredibly difficult and expensive. An Endovidual includes anyone who knows in their heart they have endometriosis because of their symptoms, even if they don’t have the official paperwork yet.
It’s also a purposefully inclusive term that embraces trans and non-binary people who live with this disease. Simply put: an Endovidual is any person who has endometriosis.
Where do your images come from?
It depends on the article! When we feature personal essays, our Crush of the Week, or expert interviews, we often use actual photos provided by the writers and interviewees themselves.
To protect the privacy of community members sharing highly sensitive or anonymous stories, we also use high-quality, royalty-free stock imagery from platforms like Pexels.
Are the writers on this site doctors?
Most of the time, no. DO YOU ENDO is rooted firmly in the lived experience. We occasionally feature articles written by or interviews with credentialed medical professionals, but the vast majority of our writers are regular Endoviduals sharing their stories.
Because of this, nothing on our site should be taken as professional medical advice. Always consult with your own healthcare provider before making medical decisions.
Can I write for you?
Yes. You do not need to be a professional journalist to have a voice here. We accept personal essays, rants, product reviews, and reporting from anyone living with endometriosis.
Check out our Write For Us page for instructions on how to pitch our editorial team.
Do you pay your writers?
Right now, DO YOU ENDO is funded entirely out of pocket by our founder through HBIC Media, LLC. Because we do not have corporate investors and refuse to use paywalls, we unfortunately do not have the budget to pay our writers at this time.
However, securing the funds to compensate every single contributor is our primary business goal. We are actively working to build brand partnerships and community funding to make paying our writers a reality.
How can I support the publication?
We are so glad you asked. If you have the means, you can make a donation on Ko-fi. Every dollar goes directly back into running the site, paying for servers, and working toward our goals of paying writers and funding excision surgeries.
If you can’t swing a donation, you can support us for free by subscribing to our newsletter, sharing our articles with your friends, or pitching us a story.
